Extending Thread link between Nest Thermostat E and its Heat link

Kris_F

Hi

I need to have my Nest Thermostat E one floor above its Heat Link in our narrow terraced house in order to get even heating throughout the flors of the housoe. However, the connection between the two frequently drops (despite there just being one floor between the two). Is there a away I can strengthen that connection by installing a Thread mesh network (or Wifi network that also supports Thread) or a smart bulb that has Thread in between the two? If so, what Thread products would you recommend for doing so? Or any other solution ask I can't find a way to bring the two nearer each other without having one cold and one warm end of the house!

many thanks

Kris

Hi there @Kris_F. I'm really sorry to hear about this, but I'm here to help. The Thermostat and the Heat Link are not connected through Wi-Fi, but through weave, so getting a Thread Mesh would not help with this situation. The Heat Link doesn't have any temperature sensors so it doesn't matter if the temperature of where it's placed is lower or higher than the temperature of the room where the Thermostat is. Only the Thermostat's display has a temperature sensor. Here is a link where you can learn more about interference and how to minimize it, as that's most likely what is causing this issue: https://goo.gle/3IN4fue.

Hi Paul. Many thanks for your response. I thought Weave and Thread were the same. Our problem is really we do need to have the thermostat 1 or 2 floors above the Heat Link, or we don't get the house evenly heated/regulated (it's a narrow terraced house over 4 floors). Is there anyway to extend the Weave signal or get a stronger transmitters/receivers as we keep loosing the signal when the Thermostat and the Heat Link are one floor apart, no matter what position I test them in?

many thanks again

Kris

At the moment there are no extenders for the weave connection between the Heat Link and the thermostat display.

The options in such a situation are to either have the thermostat moved closer, which you would rather not have done based on the location. To have the Heat Link moved if possible so that it is in a closer location to the thermostat display while wired to the system or to have a wired connection between the Heat Link and display, which would eliminate the range problem, but would mean you need to have wires and the thermostat mounted on a wall.
