Fan schedule not working right

Pacheko86
Community Member

I recently started wanting the fan to turn on while I'm not home to circulate air, noticed you can manually run and there's a fan schedule.

I can manually run the fan no issues, AC schedule works perfectly.

I set the fan schedule 15min 4-9pm and it doesn't seem to do anything, changing it to different minutes per hour seem to be hit and miss, I tried resetting to factory settings and it worked the first time then it didn't want to run again, one time it started then it wouldn't turn off for an houranyone seen or experienced this behavior?

Hi Pacheko86,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with the fan schedule. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue start?
  • Is the auto schedule on?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hello Edward

I have the nest learning thermostat 3rd gen

Can't say when the issue started because I hadn't used it before now

Auto AC achedule no (also tried while on and off), there's a set AC schedule, and I turned on the Fan schedule some weeks ago for first time

Manually running fan works, changing between 15, 30, 45 mins while inside the timeframe makes it run, but it won't run next hour, it happened a couple of times that it didn't turn back off until I disabled the fan schedule

Hi Pacheko86,

Thanks for the update. Could you also tell us how your Nest Thermostat is wired? Also, could you check if the Google Home app is set to the correct time zone. Please click on this link to learn more about this.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Edward

Not sure if it matters but I mostly use the nest app instead of google home app, but they are both set to my home address.

Device is wired:

Y1-cool

G-Fan

Rc-power

W1-heat

Any resolution?  I have the same problem and I want my fan on at all times.

Sadly no, they just asked the same bunch of questions a bunch of times and then ignored the answers, marked it as "solved" and patted themselves in the back, worst customer service I've ever experienced!

How frustrating! I've been setting the fan to run for 12 hrs at a time from the device but I usually only think to do it when it gets too stuffy.

Facing the same issue,  it was working a few months back but stopped working since summers hit.

I've been having the same issue for just about a year now. Fan schedule is set to 11pm-7am for 15 min each hour and it quite literally just does absolutely nothing unless I manually run the fan for a designate period of time. Apparently several people in this post are having the same problem, why is this taken offline and no solution posted as the resolution?

Because it hasn't been resolved, they just asked details and then closed the ticket, "thank you for participating, goodbye" kind of deal

Yes I agree, and was sort of being rhetorical because it's common theme in company support threads to just tire-you-out to give the appearance of support by asking the most basic of questions like "have you restarted/factory reset" etc.

I have the same problem.  Hard to believe that customer assistance is so worthless!

I also have this problem. Would love a real resolution! It gets stuffy upstairs, but I don't want to manually run the fan all the time.

My fan schedule from my phone was not working at all, and the fan would also occasionally cut out for a minute or two while the A/C compressor was running!  It took FOUR resets, and disconnecting from my Wi-Fi , then reconnecting  before the Nest came to it's senses.  All seems OK now... fingers crossed!  Glad that this forum exists, as Google's help on this product is abysmal.  Hope this helps!! Good Luck!!!

Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? I'm desperate for a solution.

Hi everyone,

@Ecac, thanks for posting ― let's see what's going on?

A few questions:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue start?
  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?
  • Are there any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?
  • What kind of HVAC system do you have? (Heat pump, conventional system, etc.)
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between these strange behaviors?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
  • Has there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?
  • Does the issue happen on heating only, cooling only, or both?
  • Have you checked the power readouts on the Nest thermostat?
  • Do you have a common ground wire or C wire?
  • Have you experienced any power outages within the last few days or weeks?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure the thermostat wires are completely inserted to the terminals
  2. Check if the HVAC system needs maintenance
  3. Restart your Nest Thermostat.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Mel
