Faulty Nest thermostat

Rabidi
Community Member

My Nest thermostat was set on Heat mode. For some reason it turn on the AC when we're not home last night due to high temperature in the house. The AC unit outside still had a cover for the winter months. This faulty turn on caused the AC unit to overheat. And basically killed it. Now  the AC does not work.

What type of HVAC system do you have? A conventional or a Heat Pump?

When was the Nest thermostat installed?

It's a conventional central air HVAC for residential home. The Nest thermostat was installed in May 2019.

Hi Rabidi,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry to hear about what happened to your system.

A few things to check for us to further investigate what's going on. Was there any instance that triggers the AC even if it was on heating? Do you usually change the Nest thermostat modes? Do you have auto-schedule turned on?

Thanks for your help, Patrick_Caezza.

Best regards,

Ryan

Our Nest thermostat has two auto schedules, one for heat mode and one for cold mode. It was set in heat mode with auto schedule when it decided to turn the AC on for three hours when we were not home during a hot day.

Hey Rabidi,

Thanks for the reply.

Do you also have a Home/Away Assist turned on? It is also possibly one of the settings that automatically turns on your AC. You can turn that off and your auto-schedule as well.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan
