Furnance heads-up

Chuck_Dgrow
Community Member

Hello everyone,

I keep getting error saying that my furnace keep stoping after 15 minutes usage. I contacted my furnace contrator and they came back to me saying there was no issues with my furnace.

The nest ain't stupid either and the fact the furnace keep stoping after 15 minutes usage must not be that efficient usage of the gaz either.

Anyone have a idea on how this could be fixed ?

When it shuts off does the Nest say it is still "heating" meaning it is telling the unit to run?

Yeah, lets say i put it under heating mode while i'm a few degree below my temperature point, it will tell me that gonna take 1 hour to reach that point, the Nest stay in heating for 1 hour and the furnace head-up will pop at multiple instance

Most furnace have diagnostic led on the main board that flashes a code if there is a fault. Usually the decal on the door tells you what the flashes mean.

I would check for any fault codes.

Example is high limit sensor fault or ignition failure fault.

The furnace led isn't lit atm. I will check tomorrow morning when it will be in hearing mode

Hey Chuck_Dgrow,

It's been a couple of weeks since Todbone mentioned that getting a second opinion would possibly be helpful. I wanted to follow up and see if you were still having problems with your setup and to see if you have done any additional troubleshooting. If you're still having problems, please let me know.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hey Jeff,

I did check to see if the furnace light was giving me some error code while heating but no luck. I will have to check if i could find a contractor that would be nest certified in the region to have another opinion

Hi Chuck_Dgrow,

Thanks for getting back and keeping us in the loop that you've checked your furnace light indicator. I'd be happy to take a look into this for you.

It appears like there might be a problem with power sharing from your system to the Nest thermostat. Do you mind me asking what type of Nest thermostat you have? Here's your reference to tell you which one you have. Also, do you notice any wire report or message code?

Looking forward for your response.

Best regards,

Mark

Hello,

Thank you for trying to help.

From the reference, i would say its a second generation. I never had any wire report code or message.

In the technical information under equipement i have w1 y1 g c Rc. I think that a reference to the wire.

Under power i have the following if that matter :

Battery 3,920v

Voc 37,39v (varying)

Von 37.39 (varying)

Lin 200 mA (c)

Hi there,

Thanks for letting us know. Let's see what's going on.

To isolate:

  • Were there any recent changes to your HVAC system?
  • When was the last time you had system maintenance?
  • Have you change the air filter?
  • Do you have other thermostat? If so, try installing it and see if there are changes.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Mark

If you remove the door you can put a spring clamp or something on the door switch so it will run with door removed. Then watch it running until it shuts off then look for the flashing led or some have digital led with numbers.

Sounds like maybe you should get a second opinion from another HVAC company.
