Getting Farsight to work on my Nest

I’m in the process of setting up the Nest 3rd generation I finally got after my old one bit the dust. I’m trying to engage the “farsight” feature, which I had on my previous unit, but it simply isn’t happening. I’m working directly on the unit, I engaged “settings” then “display” but when it spin the ring to make the next selection, it simply won’t stop on the “Use Farsight” option. The highlight or cursor or whatever you call it simply won’t go there, and skips right over the “Don’t Use Farsight” option.

Any suggestions? FWIW, I don’t use the “Home” app and my experience with Google in the 2.5 weeks it took them to get me a new, working (so far) unit make me very reluctant to use anything Google that I don’t have to.

Thanks

Hi @basil1229,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble engaging the "Farsight" feature on your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) as the option to select it is being skipped. I understand this is not the best experience, and it makes you very reluctant, especially after waiting 2.5 weeks for a replacement unit that is not working as expected. I'm happy to assist you.

Could you please confirm if you're able to change the Farsight setting from the Google Home app by following the steps below?

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favourites or Devices.
  3. Tap your thermostat > Settings > Thermostat > Farsight.
  4. To turn Farsight on or off, tap the switch next to "Use Farsight."
  5. Tap the feature that you want Farsight to show when it's active. You can choose the temperature, a clock or the weather.

Since factors like the battery voltage may be preventing the Farsight option from being selected, please provide the information displayed in your thermostat when going to Settings > Technical Info Power.

Please keep me posted.

Regards,

Anders

Hi, thanks for replying.
I don’t use the Google Home app, only the Nest app. This (only using the Nest app) was not an issue with my previous Nest thermostat. The Farsight feature worked perfectly on that unit. Its eventual failure was due to a different issue.
The battery voltage has consistently been 3.7+ since I initially charged this thermostat when I first received it. It was connected to a computer (which displayed it as being connected) for some four hours before I started using it.

Hi @basil1229,

Thank you for replying and for the information provided. Since the issue seems to be related to the thermostat skipping the Farsight option, I recommend you check if you have an update available on your thermostat by going to Settings > Software > Update. If the issue persists, you can try resetting your thermostat and setting it up again with the Nest app. You can find the steps to reset your thermostat by visiting the article Restart or reset a Nest thermostat.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Anders

The thermostat said the software was up to date.

The restart/reset options seem too complicated for my limited ability.

Thanks for your help.
