So let me get this straight—my Nest thermostat still works, but Google’s cutting off remote access, app control, and updates just to push me into buying a newer model? That’s not innovation—it’s forced obsolescence. I bought into Nest early because it promised long-term smart functionality. Now it’s just a wall ornament unless I pay again. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Same with the Nest protect smoke detectors. Have to buy a new detector every 5 years. But it will last 5000 years in a landfill…🤬

Sonos did this at one time with their older products, then backed away given the backlash and now has a legacy-product app. Google Nest should do the same if they wish to keep customers. There is no way I will stay with them if they don’t. And if I am getting ahead of myself, I would alternatively like to understand why they *must* drop their past customers by killing off a seemingly perfectly functional product.
