Why is there no option in the Google Home App to control the Fan on my Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen)?

Hi PenguinOpus,

Thanks for checking it with us. A few questions: in what country are you located? Do you have a dedicated separate fan wire (G) connected to your Nest Learning Thermostat? Ensure that this wire is detected by your thermostat.

To check it, follow the guide below:

  1. Go to your thermostat's Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for Technical Info.
  4. Check for the Wiring Diagram.

Also, to isolate the issue further, check if the issue persists as well in the Nest app.

Best,

Jenelyn

I am in the US. Yes, I do have the fan wire. Yes, the fan works in the Nest App.

Hey folks,

I'm dropping by to ensure everything is covered here.

Thanks for looking into this, Jenelyn.

@PenguinOpus, we appreciate the confirmation about your fan control. With this, fan controls differ slightly depending on which thermostat you have. If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat 2nd generation, it might appear in the Google Home app, but options are limited for the earlier versions. You have to use the Nest app to maximize its settings.

Please have a look at the Fan Control with a Nest Thermostat article to learn more about the settings and let us know if you have other questions.

Best regards,
Mark

No fan options in the Google Home app but I can see the Fan settings in Nest app.

Hello PenguinOpus,

Got it. I understand how convenient it is for you to have this functionality in the Google Home app, but the options are limited for the earlier versions of the Nest Thermostat, such as the 2nd generation Nest Learning Thermostat. I'd suggest using the Nest app to fully maximize its control. Also, for any feature requests, please let our product team know about them through feedback.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,
Mark
