Hello, I have a Google Nest thermostat and I am trying to find out if it is compatible with a 4 wiring system. The wires I have: G, RC, RH, Y/O, W/B. I have been reading conflicting information about the necessity of a common wire. Some say it is needed some say it isn’t.
1. Is my system compatible with the Google Nest?
2. Do I need a common wire?
3. Which google thermostat is compatible with my system.
I tried to upload a photo, but I can’t see where there is an option to do so.

Hello Dre1017,
I appreciate that you're exploring compatibility with your Nest Thermostat. Based on the wiring information you provided, it seems like you have a fairly standard setup. Let's address your questions:
Your system wiring is generally compatible with Nest Thermostats. The Nest Thermostat supports various configurations, and yours falls within the standard range. While some systems can operate without a common wire (C-wire), having one is suggested for optimal performance. The C-Wire provides a constant power supply to your thermostat, preventing potential issues like a drained battery. While the thermostat can work without a C-wire, you may encounter occasional power-related issues. If possible, consider adding a C-wire for a more reliable setup.
Given your wiring setup, most Nest Thermostats should work. However, it's essential to check the specific model's requirements. To insert an image in a post:
