Google home member logging in on Nest app to control 2 3rdGen Thermostattsand Best app wont complete

Google home member logging in on Nest app to control 2 3rdGen Thermostats and Best app wont complete the setup and allow me to open the home location.

I accepted the invitation from Google Home sent by admin.

Downloaded and installed Nest app.

Created Nest account and logged into app.

Nest app acknowledges it sees I'm associated with a home in Google Home. But when I select the address that is listed rather than 'create new home' the app goes into breakdown mode and cycles back to welcome screen. So think maybe cant use Nest App...just go with Google Home for limited control. But what's this about and is there an easy solution?

Hi @hjeffers14,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulty accessing your home location within the Nest app after accepting a Google Home invitation. I appreciate you providing the detailed steps you've already taken to describe the issue; let's work together to find a solution.

This behavior, where the Nest app loops back to the welcome screen after selecting an existing home, often indicates a sync issue between your Google Home account and the Nest app, particularly when you've migrated your Nest account to Google.

To help me understand this better and find an easy solution for you, could you please tell me

  • Are you able to control your 3rd Gen Nest Thermostats directly through the Google Home app on your phone?
  • What type of mobile device are you using (e.g., iPhone model, Android phone brand and model), and what operating system version is it running?
  • Did the admin of the Google Home send you the invitation via email or directly through the Google Home app?

Just to confirm, when you created your Nest account, did you sign in using your Google account?

In the meantime, let's try a couple of things that might refresh the connection:

  • Clear the Nest App Cache (Android) or Reinstall (iOS/Android):
  • For Android: Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > Nest > Storage > Clear Cache, and then Clear Data. After that, try opening the Nest app again.
  • For iOS: The best way to clear cache/data for an app is often to uninstall the Nest app completely, restart your phone, and then reinstall the Nest app from the App Store.
  • Restart your cell phone or tablet.
  • Try another phone to see if the issue is the same.

Please let me know the answers to the questions and if trying the steps makes any difference. This will help us pinpoint the issue and get you full control of your thermostats.

Regards,

Kevin
