Google nest thermostat heating instead cooling

Woke up to the house being warm.  Checked my app and the thermostat to see if the settings were complete.  Left the house and came back with the house temp over 85 degrees.  Called my brother in law (HVAC Tech) to troubleshoot the issue.  Checked the high and low pressure.  Checked the heat pump ( which was running at the time).  Thermostat was set at 75 and temp of the vents was over 100 degrees.  I decided to unplug the thermostat from the wall for a few minutes and reinstalled.  The heat pump stopped and start cooling the house.  That has been about 3 weeks ago and issue came back.  Is this a fault thermostat?

Hi LollyPop722,

Sorry to hear the situation that you are experiencing with the temperature readouts on your Nest thermostat, i know it could be frustrating, but I am here to help! This article will help you with the Temperature readouts: Troubleshoot issues with the Nest Temperature Sensor

Key points from the article:

  • Check the battery level and connection of your Nest Temperature Sensor (if you have one).
  • Ensure the sensor is placed in a location with good air circulation, away from direct sunlight or drafts.
  • Verify the thermostat itself is clean and free of dust or debris.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Chris
