HELP PLEASE - New to Nest!

KatieLL

Hello all!
Recently purchased a home with nest and heat link install installed. No issues for the first month, but a few days ago we now have no hot water unless the system is manually boosted. We have never had a separate hot water control option on the nest thermostat (another recently discovered item!), however had had 24/7 hot water, and now have nothing unless manually pressing the boost button on the heat link.
We have a traditional boiler and tank system… Any help greatly appreciated!!

It sounds like your system was running hot water continuously through the heat link, and now the automatic control has stopped working. If you only get hot water when pressing the boost button, it usually means the heat link is no longer receiving the schedule or call-for-hot-water signal from the thermostat.

Try restarting both the thermostat and the heat link, and make sure the wiring for the hot water control is firmly in place. If the thermostat never showed a hot water option, the system may not have been set up correctly during installation.

If the issue started suddenly, it could be a wiring fault or a failing relay in the heat link. In that case, contacting a Nest Pro or support is the safest next step.

The first question here is do you have a motorised valve in the system, and if so have you checked that is fully working?

Hi @KatieLL,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the hot water unless the system is manually boosted. I'm glad to assist you.

I appreciate your collaboration in this thread @collin-93 and @Frustratedddd.

To help me troubleshoot this efficiently, please answer these quick questions:

  • What colour is the LED light on the Heat Link?
  • On your display, is there a water droplet inside a circle? That icon usually appears when Hot Water or Bacteria Prevention is running.
  • Could you please check if the 'Hot Water' option is visible directly on your thermostat?

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Gabriela
