HVAC monitoring not working

Derekz55

I’ve had a nest learning thermostat 3rd gen at my home for the past 4 years. When I first got it it was very helpful because living in FL and having our AC running about 15 hours a day it was great to get notifications when something was not working. However, for the past almost 2 years the HVAC monitoring has not worked. I am no longer getting any type of notifications when the unit has stopped working. It’s odd because nothing has changed on the HVAC unit. I have both the nest and Google Home app on my phone and I am using my Google account to log in. I have checked all my settings and HVAC monitoring is on, notifications are on and my phone setting for the app are all enabled for notifications. I don’t even get the monthly email reports of my energy usage. I have tried factory reset on the thermostat and it didn’t help.

Hi @Derekz55,

Thank you very much for contacting this community! I understand that you've had your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) for almost 4 years. You used to receive notifications about your HVAC system when something wasn't working while you lived in Florida. However, in the last two years, you've stopped receiving any notifications from the HVAC system monitoring, even though nothing in your system has changed during this time.

You've mentioned that you have both the Nest app and the Google Home app and that you're using the same Google account for everything, so I appreciate your efforts in ensuring all your settings are correct. No worries, I'm happy to help you!

I'd like to ask you some questions so I can share some troubleshooting steps with you.

In the meantime, I'd like you to check some settings in the Google Home app and the Nest app.

  • Manage System Health Monitor settings with the Home app
    • Open the Home app Google Home Application Icon and then tap your thermostat and then Settings .

    • Under Features, tap Notifications and then Thermostat and then System Health Monitor and then select your preferred settings.

  • Manage filter reminder settings with the Nest app

    • Open the Nest app Nest app and then select your thermostat.

    • In the top right corner, select Settings Nest settings icon and then Equipment and then Air filter reminder and then select your preferred settings

  • Manage filter reminder settings with the Home app

    • Open the Home app Google Home Application Icon and then tap your thermostat and then Settings.

    • Select Notifications and then Air filter reminder and then select your preferred settings.
