Heat Pump units with gas backup, can't set schedule when in emergency heat mode

We have heat pump units with gas backup. I have manually put them in emergency heat mode. In that mode I can't set a schedule in the app on my iPhone. I know we have Nest Thermostats (2020) that I have chosen in the label above. I have had a HVAC tech look over the wiring.

I do set the thermostat at the wall unit, but that is the only way I can change the temp.

In heat mode, the units are not turning over to gas to keep up with demand. These thermostats are being used in a large sanctuary in what I would call a commercial setting, not residential.

Hi DCKobersmith,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with your heat pump unit with gas backup and the problem trying to set the schedule on the Google Home app. But don't worry; help is here. In this case, I just need to ask for some information to provide the best solution:

  • Can the thermostat display control the HVAC system?
  • Does the thermostat screen indicate that it’s actively calling for heating?
  • Did you already set up your temperature presets?
  • When did the heating last work?
  • Did you select the correct fuel type?
  • Can you send us a picture of your wiring configuration?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Jenny
