Heat Stopped Working

Lucky13F

Background:

Have had this installed for a couple years.

Took a little nipping and tucking based on wiring -- but that was 2 years ago and I cannot remember exactly what I did.  Something to do with Brown Wires, or Blue Wires...

Anyway -- been working fine since 2022.

Current Events:

Up and down temps in the Northeast - Had heat on a month or so ago and it worked, then it got warm again, put AC on -- no problems.

Got cold again - tried heat -- just pushing out cool air.

4 Days ago - contacted NEST support - deleted schedules, turned off Eco, turned off Nest Sense -- restarted unit -- and Voila - HAD HEAT!

Unfortunately - 2 nights ago Heat went up to 80 [and apparently there was a schedule still there or added while doing testing with Nest Support -- so it was a hot night.

Turned it off in the morning.  Left it off until night.

Turned it back on - no more Heat -- just cool air again.

LAST NIGHT:

Contacted Nest Support -- reset stuff again, PULLED OUT YELLOW WIRE, checked Voltage [3.74] but could not get Heat back on.

They suggested I call a Pro -- but I have a hard time paying someone to do something that has to be faxable on my own.

PRE-CALL LAST NIGHT:

Wiring = Y1, G, Rh, W1

NOW:

Wiring = G, Rh, W1

I can see a blue wire - looks disconnected.

I don't see a Brown -- but I'm guessing it is there if I poke around.

So...

Suggestions?

Hi @Lucky13F

 Thank you for reaching out to the community. I am am truly sorry to hear the heating has stopped working. I really appreciate the information provided and your efforts trying to solve the inconvenience with the heating and the schedule.  I'm happy to help!

To gather more information, please answer the following questions:

  • What HVAC system do you have?
  • Do you see any error code on the thermostat?
  • Have you had any power outages?

In the meantime, please follow these troubleshooting steps:

  • Check the power information: Settings > Technical info > Power, please attach the information.
  • Perform factory reset on the Nest thermostat 3rd gen.
  • Please note: before performing the factory reset, it has to be the original wiring configuration.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Eitan
