Heat link randomly over rides the thermostat.

I have a recently installed thermostat and heat link controlling a new Worcester high flow boiler. After a few weeks operation using the nest app to schedule the heating times, it randomly would come on in the dead of night and had gone into manual mode. This has now stopped (I can’t recall if I fiddled with it or not) but now that has stopped and the heating now comes on randomly and tries to heat way above any temperature I have ever set, say 23 degrees. The thermostat appears to be over rides by the Heat link. No turning of the thermostat makes any difference but all three green light will be lit on the heat link and it can only be set back to normal thermostat control when I press the large central button on the heat link. Any ideas on why this is happening and how to stop it? Waking up at 3am pouring with sweat and having to stomp through the house to reset the thing is sending me mental! Thanks for any advice.

Hi there, @LordLamellion

Thanks for letting us know. In order to be able to isolate the issue and get to the resolution, I'll need a few more details. Please fill out the template below:

1. When did the situation start occurring at first?

2. When was the thermostat installed first?

3. What color is the top LED on the Heat Link?

4. What are the Nest Sense settings from the Nest app? Could you provide us please with some pictures of it?

After filling out the details above, please try the following steps:

1. Go to the actual thermostat:

-Go into "Settings" => Go into "Nest Sense" => Turn off "Auto-Schedule" feature => Turn off " True Radiant" option => Turn on "Sunblock" feature.
-Go into "Settings" => Go to Home/Away assist => Turn off the Home/Away assist feature for both heating and hot water(hot water option will be available only if you have a system boiler with a separate hot water tank)
2. Go into the mobile Nest App:
-On the main screen, not on the thermostat's screen in the app,  access "Settings" => Home/Away assist => What decides if you're home => Turn off the phone's location and the product's motion sensor. Make sure all the settings are set to "No"
3. Clear all the schedule:
-Go into the Nest App => Thermostat's screen => Schedule => Clear all the red setpoints, make sure the schedule's screen is blank, without any setpoint.
4. Restart the thermostat accessing the actual thermostat's "Settings" => Reset => Restart
5. Set a manual setpoint whenever you want for 29 degrees ( or any temperature that will make sure the thermostat start),  then another setpoint for after an hour for 9 degrees ( or any lower temperature that will make sure the thermostat stops from working).
6. The thermostat should follow the manual schedule accurately now. However, if it's not, please call us back and refer to the case number below in bold and the next agent taking your call will be more than happy to assist you further.

Let me know how it went.

Hi there @LordLamellion,

I'm just checking in. Did you get a chance to check on the steps above? Keep us posted.

Hi, thank you so much for the detailed advice you have forwarded to me. I have followed all of the steps this morning and it has just fired up the heating and hopefully it should shut off in an hour. The light on the top of the heat link is green, however when it overrides the thermostat 3 vertical green lights light up . It did it 3 times yesterday, once at 5am this morning! I’ll let you know how today goes. Many thanks, Chris.

Thanks for letting me know @LordLamellion. I look forward to hear from you. Keep us posted.

Hi, unfortunately the heating has come on again randomly without the thermostat calling for heat. The thermostat isn’t orange but the heat link has all 3 green lights on. I can only turn it off by pressing the large central button on the heat link. Any ideas?

Hi there @LordLamellion, thanks for letting me know. Could you tell us please if the manual mode turns on randomly?

Hi, the system and app all worked fine for a couple of months from installation and the first problem I encountered was the manual mode coming on randomly (usually in the middle of the night). When I viewed the app it showed the temperature dial lit up orange and calling for heat. It also said manual mode and tap to cancel. This was a recurring problem for a few weeks then it stopped but was replaced with the issue I am having now.

Hey @LordLamellion. That's a strange behavior. The Heat Link should only switch to manual mode if the button is pressed. Do you have a family member or perhaps an object next to the Heat Link that could press the button? It would also be a good idea to have a Nest Pro check the Heat Link.

Hello again. Just checking in. How's it going with your Heat Link?

Hi, no change unfortunately! No there isn’t any one or thing able to press the button on the heat link. It is a real mystery but now getting beyond a joke. I shall try to find a local Nest Pro to check it out but I’m reluctant to spend too much money chasing the problem and may opt to just get a replacement installed (probably not a Nest)!

Thanks for getting back to me. If you decide to call out an installer to check your Heat Link, let me know the result.

Will do, thank you for your help with it so far.

You're most welcome. Keep me posted.
