Home/Away set to on BUT heat came on (following learned schedule) unnecessarily whilst we were not at home. Why?

Hey there,

I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. I found an article with more details on Home/Away. Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Thanks, Jake.
I have a 3rd gen ‘learning’ Nest.
I find the ‘help’ on the thermostat confusing.

I have set a schedule; does that overide the ‘learnt’ demands, or is the learning merged with the set schedule? How is it merged? Do I need to set a schedule at all? How is the learnt pattern affected by sensed movement in front of the thermostat? There’s an algorithm there somewhere, but I’m blowed if I can figure it out!

We’ve just returned from a night away from home. I set the stat to a low temperature on departing, only to find the heat was on - unnecessarily - on our return this afternoon. No learning there?

Hey there,

If you have the learning enabled, it will create a schedule for you based on what is has learned. If you are wanting to have a schedule you set be the one that is followed, I would recommend disabling the learning feature. Here is an article with more details.

Best regards,

Jake

Hey Pickers,

Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.
