Heating issues

Hi

Lately I've noticed that when I run the furnace (forced air furnace)the system will run for a bit then turn off..then immediately start the furnace back up again. Seems like the furnace will not stay on long enough to get to the target temperature.  I have checked the furnace filter and it isn't clogged.  Any ideas what this may be?

I was just typing in my situation and the whole thing got messed up so, I scrolled a minute to cool down from what was a simple fix..  All of a sudden I stopped scrolling. The first few line had my whole attention and I read your message and amazing it was almost the same as mine, but my issue was readily fixed (  say that after over almost 2 full month debacle).  I now call it my hotwire fix for $6000. Yes, I said $6000.   My thermostat would go on, then off. This took a handful of seconds as if it was playing Houdi and *poof* gone, just gone.  Tried every trick in my book which was about 3 things.  I was scratching my head for what was wrong.  Turn heat on, ok working then ooops lt shut down after like 15 seconds.  After about 3 day of doing the same thing i made the call and watched videos.
I couldnt doing anything else. I didn't know, nor possess any skills but, I watched to see if there was anything I could try in the videos about the thermo. I broke down and called my home warranty to get this looked at.  All I was told was if  this person at this number or email would call. The person never contacted me as they said in the email.  That started the big ball of waxy string to begin rolling every which way but right.

Would it be any worse. I waited the temp warmed up so I was like ok I could handle that. 2 weeks later still no call, no fix. It was a hot mess and still no help. I called them and said look I need heat it's not getting any warmer I need someone to fix this.  After waiting another 10 days and many calls I got extremely frustrated.  My only option was to call any heating/air company to see if I could get help. After leaving maybe 4 message to 4 companies I received a call back from one of the companies I had called. This young man was quick, explaining what he could see that "might" be the problem.  The repairman came inside with a $6k hot wire and that was all. He did a few things. Turned off the main box, and did his wire thing again. Next he checked to see if a winter tune-up was done, yes it was. The big answer was found by a... well you know. He took that wire and hooked up with the new at the (ok l dont always have the words for the sentence I am saying.  Its ok I often recall the word right after somone tells me the word ) and whohoo I had heat. He told me it was that simple. He showed up in less than an hour the thermostat was no longer, did another check on the system, smiled and said here's your problem. Went out into his truck. Came back in pulled out a regular thermostat... NOT a smart one. Installed and wrote out the invoice. The whole inspection and fix took about 40 minutes. Total bill $125.xx including the new thermostat . I paid that bill quickly before he could say oh I forgot or that didn't cover the emergency fee. No he said thank you, ma'am.   Then he just said, I saw the tags on your car, and said ""THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE""

All the young are not lost.

P.S. The wire wasn't $6000 the purchase was the home warranty which is hopefully given back.  If that doesn't  happen the cost will go up from there.

Hello there,

Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention and posting it in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing with your Nest Thermostat turning on and off simultaneously.

I understand that it runs for a short time, then turns off, and you've already checked the furnace filter and everything seems to be right. Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Before we troubleshoot, please provide some additional information:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue first start?
  • Have you noticed any other unusual symptoms since the problem began?
  • Are there any error messages displayed on the thermostat?
  • Is this a newly installed thermostat?
  • What type of HVAC system do you have? (Heat pump, conventional system, etc.)
  • When was the last time your HVAC system was serviced?

Once you share this information, I'll provide specific steps to resolve the issue and get your thermostat working as expected.

Thank you,

Catheryn
