Heating turning on when it shouldn’t

Apburton

Hello,

Wondering if anyone is having issues with their heating turning on when it shouldn’t. Even though I have the schedule at a very low temperature at night (9C) I wake up at 2 in the morning and it is on.

I thought I would reset the thermostat back to factory settings to combat this issue but again, it’s on when it shouldn’t be. Last night I even turned the heating off as I couldn’t resolve the issue and thought at least I won’t pay for heating a house while I’m sleeping. I got up at 3 to go to the toilet and the heating was on. Can anyone help? I have auto schedule and true radiant turned off so it can’t be that either?

Thanks,

Aaron

We are having the same issue. I want to be able to schedule it to be 'on' or 'off' rather than temperature controlled....hope someone has an answer

Omg me too! I have no idea how to use this system. Keeps coming in when it shouldn’t. I do hope someone replies 🤞

Me too. We are going away soon and I wanted to control my heating via my app but if it’s turning on when I have selects ‘off’ I’m scared i will have an astronomical gas bill in our return. Please advise?

Having the same problem. Is there some guidance somewhere that explains why it does this?

thanks for all the posts. I found out we had true radiant set at 5 hours. Changed to 1 hour now and adjusted time for target temp and works.! Hopefully save some gas now. Also lowered safety temperature to as low as it can go. Still on auto schedule for now just to see how it goes

Well it came on again at 03:50 this morning and woke me up!  So started googling and found this thread on here. What do you all think?  https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Thermostats/Heating-coming-on-in-middle-of-night/m-p/554...

UPDATE - So in the app I turned off ‘true radiant’ and ‘auto schedule’ and it didn’t come in the early hours - and came on at the time I scheduled it for - HAPPY DAYS! 😊

Thanks Lizzy - I already had all of those settings turned off previously - the true radiant one is a 'pre-heat' setting that gets to temperature at the time set. We already had that off....will double check auto schedule was off though and test it tonight! Thanks for sharing

I've done it! Solved the issue using the thread linked above.

1) Open the Nest App

2) click on Heater then the cog in top right

3) scroll down to 'Options' - move Eco Temperatures down to Off and Safety temperature down to off (or 1/2 degrees).

It appears it's a safety thing to stop pipes freezing. However this worked for me - good luck all!

I’m having the same issues. I will try turning these settings off, thanks for posting.

So far the only way I have managed to stop the heating during the night is to switch on Eco mode which I tend to forget to do.
This morning my smart meter showed I’d  £5 of energy by 5:30am which is a joke and I thought switching to a smart thermostat would save money…

Hello folks,

I'm sorry for the late response. I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused everyone; I'm sure that is frustrating, and I appreciate the steps you all have taken. How's it going with your thermostats? Are you still experiencing the issue? Also, if you're enrolled in or signed up for Rush Hour or the Nest Renew program, you might also get an unexpected temperature change.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi everyone,

Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let us know.

I appreciate the help, Jake and Mark.

Best,
Emerson

This is terrible I had cats here and my heat keeps turning on. Eco setting keeps turning on and it's been disabled. It's so dangerous. I walked in to an 89 house in June with my cats here suffering

I have the same problem I'm furious! I'll wake up in a sweat and my house temp is 74 at night when the schedule is set to 65 for sleeping until 8 am, it's costing me money and sleep and there is nothing wrong on my end software or hardware wise, Google needs to enter this conversation IMMEDIATELY or I will litigate this

Hi John,

I felt the same way earlier in the week. Try my diagnosis above and hope that helps. I will update you tomorrow if it has worked 48 hours straight.

Hi Jake

My issue isn’t resolved. The heating comes on at night even though the thermostat says the heating is off. I called Google and did a reset on the thermostat but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

kKind regards,

Aaron

We are away for the winter. We have 5 thermostats all set at 50 degrees. And schedules are all off. One thermostat keeps coming on and heating to 60+ degrees everyday, even when I turn it back down to 50 on my phone. Can you help, pleade

Hi, no trouble with me but shame I had to diagnose myself and it took 3 months for someone to comment. I am uneasy that I have lowered the safety temp to off for this to work especially in the extreme cold we have had lately.

Called Google helpline and adjusted all of the settings as instructed but my heating was still on at 4am this morning.

it seems the system is overly complicated. All I want is a thermostat that controls the heating to a set time schedule. I don’t need my heating on at 4am when I’m wrapped up in bed.

very frustrating… and costing a fortune…

There is a helpline? I would love to speak with a human

Same! Heating comes on even on eco, heat off mode! It heats the house when the temp 23degrees! Comes on nearly everyday. It never did this before. Im not happy
