Heatlink Gen 3 no lights

I have returned from holiday to find my Nest Thermostat saying it has no link with my heat link - Code H71.
I followed all the instructions to perform a reset but I am still not getting any lights on my 3rd generation Heatlink. All the power to the wiring is confirmed as good.
Do I need a new Heatlink?

It sounds like you've taken the appropriate steps to troubleshoot the issue with your Nest Thermostat and Heat Link. If you've followed the reset instructions and confirmed that the power to the wiring is good, but you're still not seeing any lights on the Heat Link, there might indeed be an issue with the Heat Link itself.

Before jumping to the conclusion that you need a new Heat Link, here are a few additional steps you can consider:

  1. Check Wiring Connections: Double-check that all the wiring connections are secure and properly connected to the Heat Link. Loose or incorrect wiring can cause communication issues.

  2. Check Fuse or Circuit Breaker: Ensure that the circuit breaker or fuse for the Heat Link is not tripped. If the breaker is tripped or the fuse is blown, it could result in a loss of power to the Heat Link.

  3. Inspect for Damage: Inspect the Heat Link for any visible signs of damage or corrosion. Sometimes, physical damage or corrosion can affect the functioning of the device.

  4. Contact Support: If you've exhausted all troubleshooting steps and the Heat Link is still not functioning, consider reaching out to Nest customer support or the manufacturer for assistance. They might be able to provide further guidance or recommend a solution.

  5. Professional Help: If you're not comfortable working with the wiring or troubleshooting further, it might be a good idea to consult a professional HVAC technician. They can diagnose the issue more accurately and recommend the necessary repairs or replacements.

If, after trying these steps, the Heat Link still doesn't respond or show any lights, it's possible that the Heat Link itself is faulty and needs to be replaced. Before purchasing a new one, though, I recommend confirming with Nest or the manufacturer's support to see if there are any other potential solutions or if they can provide further insights into the issue.

Good morning John, thank you for the response, I did the additional checks and nothing found, no damage or corrosion to terminals, and wiring is good.
I have emailed tech support

and I am awaiting a response.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to help. Your Nest Thermostat can’t connect to your Heat Link to control your heating. In addition, the Heat Link's status light will be yellow when it’s disconnected from your thermostat.

  1. Restart the Heat Link
    • Hold down the Heat Link’s button until its light turns off. It should take about 20 seconds.
    • Release the button and wait for your Heat Link to restart.
    • The status light will turn green if it re-connects to your thermostat. If the status light is yellow, continue to step 2.
  2. Move your thermostat and test the connection
Your thermostat may be a bit too far away from the Heat Link or there may be something interfering with the wireless connection. Check that there isn’t anything physically between your Heat Link and thermostat, like a large mirror or refrigerator. Large objects made of metal or other dense materials can block wireless signals.
    • If your thermostat is on a stand
      • Try moving it closer to where your Heat Link is installed.
      • Now, check the wireless connection.
        • On your thermostat go to Settings > Equipment. Then select Continue > Heat Link > Test.
        • If the test fails, move your thermostat again and re-test. Sometimes moving your thermostat a few centimeters can make a big difference.
    • If your thermostat is mounted on the wall, try moving the Heat Link.
      • Before you move the Heat Link, turn off all power to your home at the fuse box.
      • Move the Heat Link so that it is at least 30 cm away from the boiler or other large metal objects.
      • After you move the Heat Link, turn the power to your system back on.

I appreciate the input, @johnlolio.

Best,

Jenelyn
