Heatlink died

MickDurst
Community Member

Hi,

My heatlink suddenly stopped working. No LEDs while the power circuit is OK (just checked with multimeter).

The thermostat is giving me an H71 error.

I tried resetting with button and checked cables. It was working just fine two dayes ago.

The install date was january 2020.

I think I only need a new heatlink, the thermostate is fine.

Can you please tell me what to do?

Thanks in advance.

I understand exactly where you are coming from.

The issue is a component failure, nothing you have done, and Google are FULLY aware of this problem. The component is like a fuse, and when it gives up users are stuck without heating. The failure is unfortunate, and Google must be really hacked of with this, as they are paying thousands out to rectify the problem. I'm NOT a Google fan, as they take can forever to get some problems solved, but with something like this they should move swiftly!!

Take both of your issues, 24hours later, and not one Google person has stepped in and helped you! Reason being this is a community forum, not the company direct. Why have you not contacted Google Nest direct? I expect the reason being you think this is Google Nest direct??  The best thing to do is ring them, and talk to an agent direct. The phone number is free, and easy to just search in your browser.

The component that has failed inside is an 80p item, and I have repaired many of them. However, Google does has a warranty for 2 years, and should replace the heat link, and probably will.

However, the reason I keep saying to users go back to the retailer, is because here in the UK [assuming you are in the UK] we are lucky and have consumer law on our side, your thermostat set and anything you buy come to that, is covered by the retailer for far longer than a Google warranty.

For a fault like this, I would ring or chat direct to Google Nest, and get the problem solved.

You will now see, a community Google person come and help you out, then they will lock this thread, so you cannot follow on with your replacement experience to explain to others how you got on! Should this not be the case and the thread does not get locked, keep coming back to explain how you get on, and if you have been reimbursed for any cost you have encountered.

Good luck.

Very common fault with a little component inside the heat link.

Have you contacted the retailer where you purchased?

Can I ask for help too please as I have the same issue. My heat link died yesterday following a professional install in early 2020.

Thermostat and boiler working fine however, heat link has no lights despite being hardwired in and untouched since the install.

Thanks for your reply @Frustratedddd but it is only possible to send it back for repair on the site of the retailer because it is 2 years and 4 months ago when I installed it and the factory warranty is 2 years.

It is just as @Vik1  describes, the device is untouched next to my boiler since the install date.

Hey @MickDurst and @Vik1,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your Heat Links, but I'd like to help you out. First of all, please answer the following questions:

What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
When was it installed?
Did the issue happen during installation or after installation? Was it installed by a Nest Pro or by a regular installer?
Are there any lights on the Heat Link? Does the boiler activate when calling for heat by pressing the Heat Link's button to activate Manual Mode?
Are you seeing any wiring report or error on the thermostat and/or the app?
Have you had any recent power cuts in your area? If yes, has the power been restored?
Have you recently had service or maintenance on your electrical, plumbing, or heating system?
Have you tried any troubleshooting steps before contacting us?

How many thermostats do you have?

Thanks for the quick reply Frustratedddd, this helpes a lot.

Yesterday I was on my phone in the boiler room, thinking that this was the way to contact Google because in another (closed) thread, AnaM helped a guy with a similar issue.

What I did after I red your reply is contacting the Google support chat. I was helped by Gabbie from Support and Google is sending me a new heatlink, eventhough my warranty ended a few months ago and I am living in The Netherlands.

Thanks for the extensive reply @Frustratedddd, I am very pleased with that.

@Vik1 : I advise you do the same.

@AnaM : thanks for the reply!

Have a nice day guys!

I'm glad to hear everything got resolved, @MickDurst.

If you need anything else let me know.

Ah yes I remember you!

Good to hear you are now sorted, and with luck your Nest will back up and running. Remember also, the new heat link will not be a paired set now, so you will have to setup as 'Replace Heat Link'' if your using wireless.

Just goes to show how quick a phone call gets you back on track, and the time wasted on here waiting for an answer when you are freezing cold!!

You will be working soon.

Thanks for the 'Replace Heat Link' tip!
