Help with setting up nest 3rd gen

Hey all,

I just set up my nest 3rd gen thermostat following the instructions in app and when I turned everything on, it sounds like it is trying to turn on the AC for about 7 seconds, then shuts off, then starts the cycle all over again in 5 seconds. It is blowing only humid warm air. Attached is what the wiring was before installing the nest and the AC never had a problem cooling down. Original Wiring

@metalXcore , Sometimes this will happen when the Nest Learning Thermostat battery is not fully charged. You may recall that the installation instructions advised to use the USB port on the back of the display to charge the thermostat before installing.

On the Nest Thermostat display, choose settings then select technical info and report the battery information.

Hi metalXcore,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that your Nest Learning Thermostat is trying to turn on but then shuts off. I know this can be frustrating, but don't worry, I'm here to help!

Before I can assist further, I'll need some more information. Please let me know:

  • When did this issue start?
  • Have you noticed any other unusual symptoms since the problem began?
  • Are there any error messages appearing? If so, what do they say exactly?
  • Is this a new installation?
    • If yes, have you checked your HVAC system's compatibility with your Nest thermostat using the Compatibility Checker tool?
    • What type of HVAC system do you have (heat pump, conventional system, etc.)?
  • Do you have a common ground wire or C wire?
  • Does the issue occur with heating only, cooling only, or both?
  • Can you tell me the labels on your wires?

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Manuel
