Help with wiring

My new thermostat says that it cannot detect the wires.  I placed the wires in all the correct spots.  Not sure why it says this.   The only wire I did not connect from the Honeywell thermostat was the Rc.

Hi Esal,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand that your new thermostat isn't detecting the wiring correctly, which is preventing the cooling system from activating as it should. This is happening even though the heating functions properly and the wires are seated in the correct terminals. No worries, I can definitely help you with this!

To help investigate this issue, I'd like to ask for the following information:

  • What is the specific model and generation of the Nest Thermostat? Here’s a helpful article on how to identify your thermostat model.
  • When you say the Rc wire is the one that you didn't connect, do you mean you physically left it out of the terminal on the new base, or are you referring to a message on the thermostat screen that says the wire isn't detected?
  • What is the make and model of your HVAC system?
  • Did the cooling system work as expected with the previous thermostat?
  • Could you please confirm if you get any error codes when the AC is not turning on?
  • Could you share a picture of both your previous and current wiring installations?

Once I have this information, I can investigate and let you know the best next steps.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
