Home/Away - Nest App

MisterMo

I have a Nest Learning Gen 3 thermostat and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ phone. I can't get the thermostat to stop turning itself to "Away". The "Hallway" thermostat sees very little traffic throughout the day and I keep the phone on a wireless charger most of the day. In the afternoon, I can check my phone Nest App and it will show "Away". I can figure out when or why it switches to "Away".

I am attaching some screen shots showing my settings and the resulting screens when I 'Select" the various options in both Home/Away windows.

I DO NOT want to use the Home/Away feature nor do I want the thermostat to change my "Home" status.

Help, thanksSettings.jpg

Hi MisterMo,

Thanks for posting and I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience you're experiencing with the Home/Away feature on your Nest Learning Thermostat. To help you resolve the issue and prevent the thermostat from switching to "Away" mode unintentionally, here are some steps you can try:

  1. For this, get into the Nest app installed in your Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and proceed to set a thermostat. Look for Home/Away in settings, and make sure the automatic switching to AWAY is turned off. In such case, you might be required to turn off anything on “geolocation” and “occupancy sensing.”
  2. Built-in occupancy sensors detect activity and switch it to “Away”. Ensure that nothing obstructs nor interferes with functioning of the sensor. Ensure that there are no objects blocking the sensors’ view and giving any false signals.
  3. Occasiony, the occupancy sensor’s sensitivity is set a little high, hence unplanned triggering of “Away” action. The Nest app settings for the thermostat allows you to control the sensor sensitivity. Reducing sensitivity could stop the system from getting into “Away” mode due to a little movement in a corridor.
  4. To determine whether the house is occupied or not, the Nest app features other elements like the location of your mobile device. However, you can shut down this option in the app settings so that the thermostat does not depend on your phone’s position.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
