Home/Away? problem or ECO

imaxim

Like many people, I am working from home these days.  Unfortunately, if I spend more than a couple of hours in my home office, or take a nap over the weekend and I start sweating, due to temps being 80 degrees.  The thermostat is set to 75 and while I have attempted to disable ECO as much as possible, this still happens.  I do have a schedule set, but the change is happening outside the time frame of the schedule.  How do I get this thermostat to maintain the temperature I set it to?

As a start, make sure that Home/Away Assist is set to Off.  (Also called Presence Sensing.)  And, as you said, make sure that Eco Mode is off.

At the times when your house is warmer than it should be, what does the Nest say that it's doing?  Does it show that it believes 80 is the correct target temperature, or does it know that it is supposed to cool to 75?  If it shows that it's aiming at 75, is your compressor running?  The question is whether the problem is in the programming, or the Nest's communication with the AC, or the Nest itself.

Thank for the response.  When "woken up" by walking to it, the thermostat shows the temp it is set for in the schedule, but then shows it is a hour (or so) away from reaching that temp with a number of intervening lines to the actual temp.

During this time  --  when the Nest knows you want 75 and it reports that will take an hour or so to achieve  --  does the compressor run?  Does cool air come out of the vents?  It could be a Nest wiring problem or an issue with your AC system.

I honestly have not paid attention.  I do know that while I pass in front of the motion sensor at least every 30 minutes or so, I do not have an issue.  Extended time not triggering the sensor causes this apparently, hence the title of my question.  I have made sure on the settings that ECO is off.  There isn't a selection on the dial to allow to "turn off" Home Away Assist.  It appears as if I can only enable it.  Does that change if I enable the setting?

The "Home/Away Assist" screen says, "Automatically use Eco temperatures when nobody is home?"  If you see the option "Use Eco", it means that Home/Away Assist is currently off.   If Home/Away Assist is currently on, that button will say "Stop Using" instead.  Either way, if you click while that button is highlighted, you'll switch from off to on or on to off.

This is less mysterious if you control the Nest from the Nest App or at home.nest.com, and you don't have to stand in front of the Nest squinting and twirling, either.

Hey there,

I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. I hope that sheds some light on the issue.

I appreciate the help, CBFox.

Thanks,
Edward

This continued to bug me for a while.  Reading CBFox's and other posts, I came to the realization, the app is part of the equation.  The Nest and the app disagreed with how the Nest was set up.  Once I had the app set up to agree with the Nest, things smoothed out and it appears to be working as expected.  AND I reduced my power expenditure by 35 hours last month from last year.  Thank God for forums and a search function. 🙂

I have the Nest Wi-Fi mesh system. I have Safesearch turned on but I have noticed that it only seems to work with Google Chrome on Google's search engine.

What if my kid decides to use Microsoft Edge and Bing search engine to search for porn? I can actually answer that question because I tried it today while they were at school and just the simple search for the word porn and lots and lots or porn sites populate immediately with no remorse.

I have the BARK app on their phones so those are heavily monitored but PCs are different. My son is a teenager, he and his friend do a lot of gaming. He's a good kid and I'm not really worried about him. However, I just want to make sure all those doors are shut and locked and I'm not sure Safesearch is the answer. I'm considering setting up my own network monitoring system with an old laptop using PFSENSE. I thought this mesh system advertising their Safesearch system would take care of that for me. I hope they do and I have just missed something.

I have already started a trouble ticket with Nest Tech support but I thought I would reach out to the community here and hopefully get some insight.
