How do get to 'factory reset' Nest thermostat as we are 'stuck' during the install

I want to "Factory Reset" my Nest thermostat but unable to do so since it never completed the setup.  Even after removing batteries overnight, Nest will say "Continue setup in the Google Home app" (where I'm in the 'loop' of issues).  All of the information on how to do factory reset seem to base on the assumption that it has completed a setup successfully.  This is silly because Nest setup wizard is telling me "something went wrong" and suggests a factory reset!!

Does anyone know how to do the factory reset when it's not completed the setup process?

@KeikoA730

When you reset it to factory defaults did you follow the instructions here?

Restart or reset a Nest thermostat

The factory start-up message is the 'Continue setup in the Google Home app'.

Did you remove the thermostat from the Google Home app and then force it to close?

What was the problem you originally experienced?

I did remove the thermostat from Google Home app and tried to re-add.  I also created a new home (as I read in one of these recommendation) and tried...but unsuccessful.

My initial installation thought was successful as I was able to wire; finish the wizard etc.  Yesterday when I turned on AC on COOL setting, it was blowing hot air...so I started troubleshoot that (with Nest Helpdesk) and now I can't get beyond where it says they can't detect any of the wiring.  I hope I answered your question/provided enough information.

Hi KeikoA730,

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear about this situation of your thermostat being unable to finish the setup. No worries, help is here! Let's try some troubleshooting steps that might help you fix this:

  1. Quit and restart the Nest app or Google Home app.
  2. Make sure Bluetooth is on. Turn Bluetooth off, then back on to refresh the connection.
  3. Restart the mobile device or tablet.
  4. Make sure the assisting device is awake and within pairing distance (maximum of 2 to 3 meters).
  5. Put the mobile device or tablet on Airplane mode, then turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
  6. Try a different mobile device or tablet.
  7. Restart the network equipment (router, extender, or modem).
  8. Test with a mobile hotspot.

Please give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Axel.
