How long should a Nest thermostat battery stay charged?

My saga continues.
Note: I don’t have a C wire. When the heating contractor installed the new furnace and the Nest thermostat, the subject never came up.

However, the battery on that thermostat stayed sufficiently charged to work for around 10 months. When it ran out of gas, I recharged it but it wouldn’t reconnect to my wifi.

So Google sent me another one. This one connected to the wifi just fine, but ran out of gas after about five minutes.

So, Google sent me yet another one. This connected to the wifi fine, but only stayed charged for 11 days. Is this a reasonable amount of time for a charge to last or has Google sent me another dud (note this one was “pristine”, i.e. it came in a box with the cellophane shrink wrap still intact.)? If it’s a reasonable amount of time to last, how did the previous unit go 10 months without needing a recharge?

Rant over. Thank you.
