I have the nest thermostat at a home in Michigan and previously always left the heat set at 45 degrees for the winter. How do I change the lower limit from 50 degrees to 45?
The only method I've found so far is to set the thermostat to off and the Eco temperature to 45 degrees. That seems like a sketchy way. Will this work over the winter with no internet?

Hi @DallasNeal
If you're locking your thermostat in Heat mode or Cool mode, you'll need to set a temperature range. Turn the ring to set the minimum and maximum temperatures. Press to continue. Press the thermostat ring to choose Done and lock your thermostat, or select Change if you need to make any changes to your lock settings.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. However, I don't think you read my question. How do I set the heat temperature to 45 degrees? The lowest it appears to go is 50 unless it's "OFF" and the Safety Temp is set to 45.

My apologies, I did indeed read that wrong.

Hey DallasNeal,
Glad to be of help. Do you mind me asking, when trying to adjust your saftey temps, are you using the app, the thermostat it self, or the computer? You should be able to adjust your saftey temps to the desired 45 degrees. Please let me know what you are seeing when trying to adjust that?
Best regards,
Jake

I can adjust the safety temp to 45 degrees using the nest device. Having to run in the "off" mode with safety temps to make things work seems wrong/risky especially considering I won't be there to monitor it.

Hey DallasNeal,
I understand the worry here. Your thermostat will continue to heat or cool while your home Wi-Fi network is offline. Notifications about Safety Temperatures rely on an active Wi-Fi and internet connection in your home at the time of the notification though. If your Wi-Fi network is down during the time when the Safety Temperature is reached, you will not receive the notification. Once temperatures return to normal levels, another notification is sent to let you know. Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Jake

Thank you for the response. I don't keep wifi on during the winter. Will just go back to the mechanical thermostat. Disappointed.
