I did not know this

Okay I first thought if I set a temp that nest would change when I ask it to, now I find out it can change and start working like a ghost.  I had 51 degrees heat set and in the morning it was at 71 heating.  The temp was 58 degrees and I wanted nest to stay at 51 that I had it on!!!  I had already turned off auto schedule!  Now, I just shut nest entirely off, then read an article here that says it can even turn itself on and start heating or cooling.  I do not like that!  I say off, that furnace needs to stay off!!!!!   Heat will bde having an increase and I will not be needing nest to  make me pay more!!!!!!  April 2022!,,,   I need to start. Hacking up on my nest more when I am away at work.  It is becoming a little hard headed!😂😄😅. I like cool weather and will not want nest adjusting nothing unless I say so!!!!!!!!!!

Are you using Home/Away Assist (the "smart" feature), or are you just trying to get the Nest to follow a consistent defined schedule, like a not-smart programmable thermostat?

Home/Away Assist can do some unpredictable things, so when troubleshooting the first step is to turn that off.  Then the Nest should (if working properly) follow the temperature schedule you've programmed.  If you don't like that program (e.g., the program calls for 71 but you only want 51), you change the program.

If you want to override the program, you can do it temporarily (just until the next set point in the program) by asking for a different temperature, or permanently by setting the Nest to Eco mode at a temperature you've specified in Settings.

(Sorry if I've misunderstood your question.)

Hey folks,

Thanks for answering and for your suggestion, CBFox.

Nester57, sorry to hear about your experience with your Nest thermostat. Have you had the chance to check on it's Home/Away Assist settings like what was suggested above? You may refer to this link for more information: https://bit.ly/3mmuIla
