Hi nest users, I live in the UK and use oil (kerosene) for heating. I've had a nest for a year and really only make use of it's remote capability. In the autumn and spring I've always relied heavily on a 1 hour heating boost on traditional thermostats but this function isn't available on the nest. I'm a pensioner and wasted too much energy last winter forgetting to turn the nest down. So it's going to be replaced. My son has a hive and that's the obvious choice (he uses boost frequently) but apparently it needs an additional little box near the router which I don't want.
So can anyone suggest a simple thermostat that I can operate through an app. It doesn't need any fancy features and appearance isn't important. There's plenty out there I know but if anyone has any recommendations they would be gratefully received.

Hi there and thanks for sharing your thought with us. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with our product, but the good thing is that we can work this out together. Basically, in order to avoid situations like yours, you can easily generate a heating/hot water schedule directly on your thermostat or in the Nest App. You can create and add setpoint on your schedule such as starting temperature (e.g. 19 degrees) and a ending temperature point (e.g. 21 degrees) and then repeat the pattern (e.g. 19,21,19,21 etc) at the desired time of the day. In this way, your thermostat will memorize your routine and follow the schedule. In order to make sure that the other features aren't overridden your schedule, we recommend to switch off the Auto-Schedule and True Radiant options.
Please check out these articles, it will explain more in depth: https://goo.gle/3paHas1, https://goo.gle/3QykjCm. Hopefully this will make you reconsider your decision when it comes to our product.
