Inconsistent connectivity between the app and the device

I am having a problem with the nest, not responding with the app. This is occurring both of my android phone and my iPad. I have reset the device several times and it works again for a short time, but then stops again  I have returned two other brand new generation 3 Learning devices fearing  that it was a device problem. it’s obvious that this is not the case. also this morning, when I was working on the problem again, it switched from cooling mode to heating and cooling mode right in front of me. What is going on?

Hi @vianapoli,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand you're experiencing inconsistent connectivity between your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) and the Nest app, especially since this is happening with both your Android phone and your iPad. I know how concerning it is when your device stops responding and switches from cooling to heating by itself, even after multiple resets and returning two brand new units. I appreciate the detailed information and the significant effort you've put into troubleshooting this. Don't worry, let's work together to get this resolved.

To help with that, I have a few questions for you:

  • When your Nest Thermostat goes offline, is there any error code or message shown in the display?
  • Is your Wi-Fi router close to the thermostat, or are there several walls in between?
  • Do you have a conventional HVAC system (furnace and AC) or a heat pump system (single unit for both heating and cooling)?
  • Have there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,
Daniel
