Information Provided by Nest Thermostat for Stage 2 (Auxiliary Heat) for a Heat Pump System?

I have Heat Pump Systems with 2 stages of heating (Heat Pump + Auxiliary Heat Strips).  I am considering buying a Nest Thermostat and want to know if the thermostat tells you when the 2nd stage is being used.  Also, does the History provided by the thermostat show when 2nd stage was used on the timeline?  Is there a document that explains the History Timeline info in detail?  Thanks for your help.

Hello B-HUTCH,

Thanks for considering a Nest Thermostat for your Heat Pump systems with two stages of heating. The Nest Thermostat is indeed capable of indicating when the 2nd stage (auxiliary heat strips) is being used. During operation, you'll be able to see on the thermostat display when the auxiliary heat is activated.

As for the History feature, it does provide a timeline that displays when the second stage was used. You can review the heating events and observe when the system transitions between the different stages. It's a handy tool for understanding your heating patterns and energy usage in the Nest app.

For a more detailed understanding of the history timeline information, you can check out the Thermostat Energy History article.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

Best regards,
Mark
