Install - Nest Learning not detecting power

I wired the Nest but it doesn't detect power (thought it seems to recognize all the wires). I was able to test the red wire (power) with a multimeter and the wire IS powered. I've tried it with both RC and RH, and tried jamming it in as far as it would go as well as pulling it out a bit. I'd appreciate some help or suggestions!

Hello styzlerfical,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

It's great that you've already tested the red wire and confirmed power with a multimeter. Since the Nest Thermostat recognizes the wires but doesn't detect power, try resetting the thermostat by holding down the display for 10 seconds. Also, ensure that the wires are securely connected, and check for any loose connections. If the issue persists, tell us the wiring report it shows and gather the power readings in the Technical Info settings.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Mark

Mark,

Not to sound ungrateful for your response, but it took 4 days for a response to my inquiry, which suggests that there will be several days between answers if I start troubleshooting.... Will you respond immediately when I reply, or will I have to continue to exchange thermostats every few days once I get an updated recommendation? It's cold where I live, so I need to keep the heat on.

Please let me know. If you plan to respond timely, I'll put the thermostat back on and start with the troubleshooting. Thanks!

Hi there,

Sorry if you feel that way—we're trying to be as responsive as we can. To move forward, gather the power readings on the thermostat and check for any wiring reports. Also, does it have a C wire installed? If so, please remove it and leave it disconnected. Then, tap and hold the thermostat screen or the button for 10 seconds until it reboots. Once ready, inspect for any wiring changes and changes in its power readouts.

Note: Turn off the power from your HVAC system at the breaker box before touching the wire.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Mark
