I have a Trane system with three wires. I found the “R” wire easily, but it’s not clear to me if the “D” and “B/C” wires fall under the other categories. For example, does the D wire fall under the “A,B,C,D” option?

Hello Clennon928,
It sounds like you're dealing with a three-wire setup on your Trane system and trying to figure out where the "D" and "B/C" wires fit in terms of the conventional thermostat labeling. Typically, thermostat wiring involves letters like R, W, Y, G, and sometimes C.
In the case of Trane systems, the letters "A, B, C, and D" are often associated with their proprietary communicating system, which may not directly correspond to the standard thermostat wiring letters. However, it's essential to identify the functions of each wire for proper installation.
It's crucial to refer to your Trane system's manual or documentation to precisely determine the functions of the "B/C" and "D" wires in your setup. Instead, can you share with us a photo of your HVAC system control panel showing how the wires are being labeled? Also, the make and model of it.
I'll look forward to your response.
Regards,
Mark
