Hi have a trane thermopump for heat & ac and backup electric furnance for when really cold

here is my wiring on the old themostat

outside and inside has a different label letter  (I'm guessing outside for conventional and inside letter heat pump)

not sure where old  W1 / O orange wire goes to W1 or W2/Aux or O? on nest

not sure if old W1 / W2 white wire with jumper to X2 goes to nest W1 or W2/aux or *

outside and inside label letter color (I'm guessing outside for conventional and inside letter heat pump)

W1 outside label/ W2 inside label with white wire with jumper to X2

G and G green goes to nest G

Y and Y black goes to nest Y

W1 inside label/and O outside label wire orange

RC and RC red goes to nest RC

Hi musicmike108,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum and for showing interest in our Nest Thermostats. Fortunately, your thermostat wires are compatible with our Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation or Nest Thermostat E and should be wired to their bases as follows:

  • Black wire to Y or Y1
  • Green wire to G
  • Orange wire to OB or *OB
  • Red wire to R or RC/RH
  • White wire to W or W1

Take note that jumper wire is not needed for Nest Thermostat. Also, here's a guide for the installation and setup of Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation and Nest Thermostat E

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Zoe

Hi Zoe,

thanks for the reply

but you don't think white wire that has W2 with X2 jump (inside label letter) for my electric furnace for really cold weather should not go to the W2/aux on nest instead of W1?

it says outside letter label is for my heatpump and inside letter label for furnace heat

Hi there,

Gotcha—thanks for confirming. I'm sorry for the confusion. Since the white wire is originally connected to the W2 wired jump to X2, you should connect the W2 wire to the W2 AUX terminal of the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation instead.

Thanks,

Zoe
