Installed Nest - Temperature rising even though it's set to cool

Hello,

We installed our nest a couple days ago.  I've set the system to cool at 70, air is blowing out of the vents but it's stronger in some than others.  Also the actual temperature of the house keeps rising, now at 75.   We never had a problem with our previous thermostat, so I don't think it's the HVAC.  Especially since I hear it on and working hard in the basement.  We've also had our ducts cleaned, so they aren't clogged either.  How can we get it to actually cool our house??

Did you enroll in an AC savings program with your energy provider? We are having the same issue and found that because we enrolled in that program they prevent your AC from kicking on during high demand times even though they tell you that you can still control it. I'm so irritated because our house is currently 80 degrees and I am 9 months pregnant. I have it set to 70 and barely any air is coming out of our vents and the house keeps getting hotter.

Hey there!

Sounds like your Nest isn't cooling quite as expected. Let's see if we can get things back on track.

Nest Details:

  • To get started, it would be helpful to know which Nest thermostat you have. There are a few different models, like the Nest Learning Thermostat or the Nest Thermostat E. You can usually find the model name on the back of the device.

HVAC System:

  • Knowing the model of your HVAC system would also be great. This can help identify any compatibility issues between your Nest and your heating and cooling unit.

Troubleshooting Steps:

In the meantime, here are some things you can try:

  • Double-check the Nest/Google Home app: Make sure the system is set to "cool" and not accidentally on "heat." You can also review the temperature schedule to ensure it's not programmed to switch to a warmer temp later.
  • App settings: Verify the Nest has the correct heating and cooling system type selected in the app (heat pump, furnace, etc.).
  • Airflow: Uneven airflow can affect cooling. Check your air filters for clogs and replace them if needed.

HVAC Maintenance:

  • While we're troubleshooting the Nest, it's also a good idea to consider your HVAC system itself. When was the last time you had routine maintenance performed? Regular maintenance can help prevent cooling problems down the line.

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions you have.

Best,

Brandon.
