Is my current thermostat compatible?

 I have no idea of the nest learning thermostat will work on this. Can anyone help me? This was instaled before we moved here.

Cross reference your wiring layout with the nest base wiring diagram. it works with nearly ALL wiring layouts and even custom configuration. But if you want to self install you should be able to compade what you have now versus the base nest diagram. If that is too technical (no judgment here, just courteous advice) I would seek the help of a competent installer.

What kind of heating do you have?

That looks like high voltage type wiring for electric heaters.
