Matter Thermostat doesn't work without being linked to Google Home

The 2020 thermostat that recently updated to Matter will not work on other platforms unless it has a connection to Google Home

You HAVE to use Google Home to set up the Thermostat before you can add to other platforms with matter which defeats the whole purpose of Matter.

If you attempt to remove the thermostat from Google Home after linking it to another platform with Matter the whole Matter API on the Nest Thermostat gets disabled.

Hello DMedina559,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum.

One of the Google Nest products that will embrace Matter is the Nest Thermostat 2020, which will enable users to control their thermostat via Matter-certified third-party platforms. In order for the Matter integration to work properly, the thermostat should be added to an account in the Google Home app first, which includes the HVAC system configuration setup.

Have a look at this guide and let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,
Mark
