I just moved into an apt where previous tenant replaced the standard thermostat with a nest thermostat. I added the Nest app and Google Home app. I cannot add this nest to Google Home, can’t do a factory reset, can’t get it connected to WiFi, cant connect it to Bluetooth, can’t do anything. Doubtful I can get info on previous tenants who used this Nest. How do I add this Nest product to my app and finish the setup process?

Have nest thermostat already installed by previous tenant. Did a factory reset to clear out previous owner but now can’t get google home app to add or recognize the product. It wants to walk me through installation but it’s already installed. It’s not connected to Wi-Fi - could that be the problem? The nest screen displays “continue setup in google home app” but it’s a vicious cycle cuz I can’t get google app to recognize my nest thermostat. How do I resolve this?

Hi Jen7,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd love to help!
There is the Nest Thermostat 2020 model, and it looks like all you need to do is add it to your own account. To do this, make sure that you have the Google Home app installed on your phone and are already signed in. Then, on your actual thermostat on the wall, remove its display and take out both batteries to restart before plugging them back in on its base. While doing that, you can jot down or remember which wires you have on its base before the setup.
After doing the initial steps above, open the Google Home app and add a new device. Most of the setup will be in the app itself, so here's your guide on how to add the Nest Thermostat to the app.
Let me know if you need more help.
Regards,
Mark
