My Nest does not stop heating up the house!!!

Hi, I have an issue with the heating system. The heating on my nest would turn on but when it reached the set temp it didn't turn the Boiler off, so the house continued to heat. It does not work even if I try to turn of manually from the device or Android app. Currently, to turn Off the heating, I am setting to cool and once cool kick starts I am turning off the system.

Note: I have a system with 4 wires Black(Y1), Green(G), white(OB) and Red(RH). In my old system there was a jumper between RH and RC and I guess that's not needed for Nest.

Appreciate your help

Hi bgsin,

Thanks for posting in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest thermostat doesn't stop the heating even after that target temperature is reached. I'd be happy to help.

Regarding your question about the jumper between the RH and RC terminals, you're absolutely right. Nest thermostats don't require a jumper or an RC wire. For more details on thermostat wiring, you can check out this helpful article: Learn about thermostat jumper wires.

To continue investigating the inconvenience, I’d like to ask the following:

  • What is the model of your Nest thermostat? Here’s a helpful article about how to identify your thermostat model.
  • Is the Nest thermostat newly installed?
  • Does the inconvenience happen with both heating and cooling, or just heating?
  • Have you received any error messages?
  • When was the last maintenance and cleaning service performed on your HVAC system?
  • Have there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?
  • Did you try removing the thermostat display from the base to turn off the heat, or did you select the "off" option on the display?

In the meantime. I’d suggest checking the following steps:

  • Check the Energy History to see if some features are causing the unusual thermostat activation. For more information, see this article: Thermostat Energy History.
  • To check if the boiler keeps turning on the heat, try plugging in the old thermostat, if one is available.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,
