My thermostat doesn’t respond to the app anymore

The thermostat doesn’t change the temperature anymore when I use my phone, same goes for the “away” function. It doesn’t work.

I have checked all connections and updated the software. Nothing works.

Hi Uefke,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with your Nest Thermostat that is not changing the temperature and is not recognizing the Home/Away mode. I appreciate you checking the connection and the software updates. But don't worry; help is here. I just need to ask for some information to provide the best solution:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?

  • Can you see the thermostat connected to your app?

  • Do you check if the location is available for the app?

  • What steps did you try to solve the situation?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny

I am having the same problem. It started 2 days ago. I have 2 Nest 1.4 thermostats. Both intermittently report a "Something went wrong" error when I attempt to change the temperature. This happens on my Chromebook, Pixel 8 phone, and Pixel 2 watch. The Home app is the latest version on all of these devices. Restarting the thermostats did not resolve the problem. This happens mostly in the morning, around 7 AM to 11 AM PST.

Hi Jenny,

As stated above, both thermostats are, according to the Home app, a Nest model 1.4. Yes, I can see both of them connected to the app. I also tried replacing the batteries, but that had no effect.

Have the model display 3.7 and heat link amber 2.5, is that what you need?
yes the app is connected, it shows the temperature and the schedule works. Just can’t change it.
yes location is shared always.
I have deleted the thermostats from the app and reinstalled but no succes

thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your reply and the information provided. I understand that you already tried different steps for this problem, including changing the batteries and restarting the thermostat device, but the situation persists. Here are some recommendations that you can try:

Check that the Nest device is set correctly to the Home and Away:

  • Nest App:
  1. Go to Settings > Home Away Assist > Find the device listed under When you are home
  2. If the device shows No change, tap the device name and enable the toggle for the device to respond to Home and Away.
  • Home App:
  1. Go to AutomationsHome or Away Routine under Household Routines. Check if the Nest device is listed under Actions.
  2. If the device is not listed under Actions, tap Add action and then > Tap the check box next to the device name > Next > enable the toggle for the device to respond to Home and Away > Add ActionSave the Routine.

After that, follow these steps:

  • Please restart the app by closing the app completely and then reopening it.
  • Restart your mobile device; sometimes, restarting your smartphone can resolve app-related issues. Turn off your device, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Clear app cache and data. If the app continues to malfunction, try clearing the app's cache and data.
  • And the last step will be to try to delete and reinstall the app. This simple step can resolve temporary glitches or issues with the app.

Please let me know how that goes. I'll be waiting for your response.

Jenny

The problem seems to have revolved. Did Google push out an update that fixed it?
