My thermostat keeps going up to 78 at night even tho we set it at 71. We wake up sweating!

We set the thermostat at 71 every night. It cools down and then resets itself to 78. We have to get up 3 times to reset it down before it stays.

Hey Terri,

Having issues with the temp during the night is not ideal, and I am sorry this is the case here. There might be a schedule set on the time that you manually set the temperature, or it could also be a learned routine on the thermostat that's overlapping the manual set point. If there is a schedule set, it will always follow the schedule rather than the manual set temperature.

For us to make sure that the thermostat will follow the temperature that we will be setting you can first reset the thermostats schedule. Here's how:

1. Press your thermostat ring to open the Quick View menu.
2. Choose Settings
3. Turn the ring to reset and press to select. Select Schedule

Observe it for a day or two and let us know me how it goes.

Ours is set to 72 with a max temp of 76. But it goes all the way up to 78 and we feel like we’re cooking with 95+ degree days here. I have babies and it’s known that hot sleep temps can lead to SIDS. it’s imperative our house maintain a consistent 72 degree temp especially at night. I wake up regularly in the night to fix this. Very annoying and downright stupid for it to do this because it’s not actually economical. It should just maintain 72 rather than work to cool it back down after letting it get that warm

Hey Robinsonvap,

Thanks for posting and I understand how you feel about this sudden change of temperatures on your Nest thermostat.

What specific Nest thermostat do you have? Have you tried checking on your Thermostat Energy History for the cause of the change? Take a look at this link for more information: https://goo.gle/3So76xE
