NEST E no heat option

This topic has been posted before but can no longer accept comments.  The suggestion by the "bot" was to call a pro.

I'm a NEST Pro for a long time.  I have a few different NEST thermostats in my home.  One is a NEST E in the dining room that only controls heat as we have baseboard hot water.

Using the Google home app I can see the thermostat, but it will not allow me to switch to heat mode.  Only cool is offered.  Not even an option for heat.  It worked last season fine, this year, only COOL and OFF.  Not sure what changed.

The previous thread had a reply that others are also having the same issue.  What is the fix??

Hi bestaudioguy,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that you're not able to control heating on your thermostat using the app. Let me take a look at this for you.

Are you located in North America or Europe? Does the Nest Thermostat E itself not show an option to change to heat mode? If so, turn off the power to your thermostat at the breaker box, remove the thermostat display off its base, then remove and reconnect the W wire for heating. Place the thermostat display back to its base, then turn on the power to your thermostat, then check if the heat mode option does appear on the thermostat and on the app after that.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Thanks for the reply.  I'm in the USA and decided to try and reboot to factory settings.   Let it reboot and the heat option returned and was the only option.  Not sure what caused the thermostat to show only cool as the only option...last season it worked fine.  Not sure what the factory reboot did, but it now works as it should.
