Nest 2nd gen - battery low AND now connected with C wire - won't connect to WiFi

Hello - I have a Nest 2nd gen thermostat, that previously was running without a C wire and we've never had connectivity issues. We just had our furnace replaced. During the process, the Nest wouldn't operate correctly until the C wire was also connected in. (it was in the wall, not sure why it was never hooked up originally).

Now, the Nest won't reconnect to WiFi because the battery is too low.

Will the battery naturally recharge itself? It doesn't seem to be. Can't seem to find the answer elsewhere.

Thanks!

Hi johnnyburrita,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that during the process of replacing your furnace, your Nest Thermostat 2nd gen wouldn’t operate correctly until the C wire was also connected in, but now it isn’t reconnecting to WiFi because the battery is too low. No worries; it is my pleasure to help you find a solution for this inconvenience.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • When was the Nest Thermostat installed?

If the thermostat was recently installed:

  • "What is the make and model of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment?"
  • "Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?"
  • Did you charge the thermostat with a USB cable?"
  • Do you have error codes on the thermostat screen?
  • Do you see a blinking LED light? If so, is it red or green?

Thanks for your attention; I will be looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Virna
