Nest 3rd Gen Wrong Temperature

We purchased the nest thermostat 3rd generation and had it installed today. Upon setting it up, we noticed the temperature the thermostat says is inaccurate with what the actual temperature is. It’s reading about 7-8 degrees higher than what the actual temperature is. We’ve already tried restarting the thermostat and no luck. Any guidance on how to fix this?

I’m having the same issue. Might have been installed for a couple of months. Came home from a business trip and my house is freezing at the thermostat says it’s 78°. I’ve reset it but still not sensing the correct temperature. First time I’ve experienced this

Thank you for reaching out and bringing this to our attention. We appreciate your recent purchase of the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation, and we apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced with the temperature readings.

We understand how important accurate temperature control is for your comfort, and we'd like to take a look into this. To isolate:

 

  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • Where did you install your thermostat? (in a room and on a wall or stand)
  • Do you have other active Nest Thermostats?
    • If yes, do they show the same issue?
  • Could you provide a rundown of all the steps you've tried?
  • Please gather the signal strength value. Go to Settings > Technical Info > Network.
  • If you have a thermometer, take a photo of the thermometer next to the Nest Thermostat. Both the thermometer and thermostat screens should be visible in the photo and show the difference in each other’s readouts.

 

Going over these steps might help:

 

  1. Restart your thermostat.
  2. Turn on the sunblock.
  3. Settings > Nest Sense
  4. Check if the thermostat is near a heat source.
    1. Air vents that direct warm air
    2. Appliances (which include large televisions)
    3. Electrical outlets
    4. Plumbing (hot water pipes in old buildings are frequently not insulated)
    5. Warm air in the wall
    6. Other potential heat sources
  5. Cover the wall with a duct seal compound.
  6. Check the thermostat's network connection.
  7. Disable the Wi-Fi network for 24 hours.
    1. Settings > Reset > Account Connection/Network.
