Nest 3rd Generation won't turn on

Hi, I've got a used 3rd gen Nest. I have manually charged it, and when connected to the base, it flashes green (quick) - off - yellow (longer) - green (longer) - off, and repeats indefinitely.

If I press and hold for 10 seconds there's a quick red light in the mix, but no other changes. The screen will not turn on.

I've had a different 3rd gen Nest on that base, and it works as it should. I just want to swap this one in for cosmetic reasons (gold vs silver).

Any info on how to get it up and running would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi rhetthuff,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear you're Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) won't turn on. I understand you want to swap the other Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) for cosmetic reasons. I appreciate all the efforts you've made to resolve this inconvenience. I'm happy to help!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • Is the thermostat's display seated properly?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?
  • Do you have a conventional HVAC system (furnace and AC) or a heat pump system (single unit for both heating and cooling)?
  • How long did you charge the thermostat?
  • When did the issue first start?
  • Are the power breakers on, and is your home receiving power?
  • Additionally, please share a picture of your previous wiring configuration and the current one to determine the compatibility.

Once I have these details, I can assist you better with the specific information.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Melany
