Nest App will not connect

Hello everyone. I have a Gen2 and new Gen3 Thermostat that will connect using my Hotspot bit will not connect thru my Netgear Nighthawk  RAX120 router. I have tried on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz and neither will show my Stat online or Llow connection. I have restarted and reset both and the Gen 2 will not display a key unless using mobile Hotspot. What am I doing wrong or are there settings in the router preventing connection?

Hi JcsuQB12,

Thanks for reaching out. That's a good question. The Nest Thermostats has a special router setting that needs to be enabled. It's also most likely that an unknown variable in your network environment is causing the issue.

Here are the most important recommended Wi-Fi networks and router settings:

  1. Enable 802.11 b/g/n if you have an 802.11 ac router.
  2. Set your Wi-Fi router's DHCP lease time to at least 2 hours.
  3. Turn on your router's Power Save Mode (PSM), if you have a Nest thermostat.
  4. Enable IPv6, if you have a Nest Protect.
  5. On your Wi-Fi router, turn on multicast, if you're adding additional Nest devices.

If you're not familiar with Wi-Fi router settings, contact your internet service provider (ISP) or router manufacturer for help with these settings. After enabling those settings, try to connect your thermostat again, and let me know how it goes.

Best,

Jenelyn
