We have an Nest E thermostat. I have noticed during both heating and cooling that when the unit turns on, it seems the temperature within 10 minutes or so will change and the unit shuts down. Then say within 15-20 minutes the unit turns on again. I have:
Powered furnace down.
Restarted Nest
Pull it off the frame and reseated it.
Checked it has latest software.
Any other things to check?

Hi Danno2000,
Thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. By any chance, is there a set of schedules that your Nest Thermostat E follows? If you are not sure, press your thermostat display to bring up the Quick View Menu, then look for Schedule.
I'll look forward to your response.
Best,
Zoe

Hello there,
I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.
I appreciate your input here, Zoe.
@Danno2000, thanks for letting us know. Do you have a Google Home app installed on your phone? If so, open the Google Home app and select "Routines". Check for any thermostat actions and remove or edit them. This might cause your thermostat to randomly change its temperature. Also, check the auto-schedule and ensure that it's disabled.
Let me know how it goes.
Regards,
Mark

I do have the home ap, but could not find routines...there is a long of time and date when thermostat turned on and off. Auto schedule is disabled. It seems to be better the last 3-4 days...maybe temperatures were near the set point and turning on and off for only 15 minutes sometimes. I will kepp an eye on it.

Hey Danno2000,
Gotcha! Thanks for the update. The Routines icon should be on the Google Home app's homepage itself. But keep me posted, as I would be glad to know what the result would be.

Mark

My son seems to think we need the "C" wire hooked up. I went through all this last week and the thermostat was installed about 4-5 years ago and the battery voltage always seems to be around 3.89.
I only have 4 wires going to nest wall plate, do you think I need the "C" wire? I think there is nest device which must switch wires internally as it gives you 5 wires at the furnace. Think this is worth a try? I could try fishing another wire but it's a fair bit of work...I think this device is like $30.

Hi Danno2000,
Thanks for the input. A common wire would help to avoid power loss and HVAC activation issues. To be sure, could you also gather the Voc, Vin, and Lin in the Technical Info settings? Were there any instances where your thermostat showed any power reports or delayed messages when turning on your system?
Keep me posted.
Best,
Mark

I got the Google adapter for the 5 wire so I can use the common. Installed it yesterday..we will see if it helps any. As your questions...never saw any error messages with the unit.

I installed the adpater 2 days ago. I don't think it's made any difference. I still see battery volatge always between 3.86 and 3.89 and can always connect to it by WIFI. What I saw it doing yesterday was..cooling was set at 75F. When room temp got to 76 it utned on to cool and message on display said 1 Hr 10min to reach temp. Well it only ran 10 minutes and temp on display was 75 and unit shut off. Mind you outside temp was only 78-80. Maybe because the temps are not real hot right now it does this. I noticed later in the day when it got a bit warmer outside it did run for 30min.

Also from your previous email. not sure what Voc, Vin, and Lin in the Technical Info settings are.
