Nest Gen 4 Thermostat does not display when the Aux Heat is on

I just installed my Gen 4 yesterday.  All seems to be working ok with this exception. I don't see any indication on the thermostat when the Aux heat(heat strips) are in use. Should this be on the display?  The good news is that the thermostat calls for Aux heat, but I would like to know when it's on.

Thanks

Hi Astrocyclist,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that you're unable to see any indication on the display of the Nest Learning Thermostat 4th Gen that the auxiliary heat is in use. I'd be happy to assist you with your concerns about whether the thermostat should display this information on the screen.

Depending on the configuration, the Aux heat will often indicate that it is on when the system needs it to activate in order to reach the target temperature. To better assist you, I'd like to ask the following:

  • What type of HVAC system do you have (conventional or heat pump system)?
  • Would you mind sharing what wires you have installed on the Nest Learning Thermostat's base or uploading a picture of the wiring installation?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi Jennifer,

I've resolved the problem.  My previous thermostat had been wired incorrectly by the installer.  They had out the Aux heat wire on W instead of Aux.  After tracing the wire back to my Trane heat pump I was able to see it was indeed for Aux heat. Now that the temps outside are lower enough require the Aux heat, I was able to verify I am now wired correctly.

Best Regards,

Ben

Hi Astrocyclist,

Thanks for following up! I'm glad to hear that the inconvenience was fixed by double-checking where the wires are installed in the Trane heat pump control board. I also appreciate all the efforts you've been making to resolve this inconvenience.

If you need more assistance in the future, feel free to post again.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
