Nest Learning Thermostat Showing Wrong Temp... and Won't Cool

Ricolow
Community Member

After a power outage, Nest thermostat was showing room temp at 78, but room was 69.  HVAC tech came out and confirmed furnace was okay and  Nest showed room temp 7 degrees warmer than actual.  After a few days of that, needed AC as weather got warmer... but Nest now shows room temp of 84 and even setting the Nest to 50 degrees won't get the room below actual of 75 degrees.  Have tried reset to no avail.  Tech said this is common with Nests and recommended a much more expensive system.  Any suggestions?

Hi Ricolow,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community.

I'd like to jump in here and check if you're still getting the same issue on your Nest Thermostat. Have you tried to do a restart on the display? Check if there's an update available for your Nest Thermostat.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

The same thing has happened to me and my Nest.  How do I restart ???

I restarted the thermostat.  I am hoping it will start cooling.  Temperature outside is 87, with index of 98.  Thermostat is reading 84 and the house is not cooling.  I, also, checked the software to see if it was current and everything is current.  I have triple checked all of the daily schedules and secured the appropriate temperatures.  Still not cooling.  I have thermostat turned down to 72 and still reading 84, with an estimate arrival at 72 in 2 plus hours.

Hi CasaCharaguey,

Thanks for the reply and for trying the steps provided.

Could you tell us which Nest Thermostat you're using? We can also change the thermostat mode to cooling and check if your HVAC compressor kicks in when set to cooling.

Best regards,

Ryan

i spoke to 3 different reps for Nest, yesterday. Finally, the third and most competent of all, this lady helped us with checking the entire system. The thermostat was working correctly. The AC capacitor was malfunctioned. It was replaced this morning. We’re back in business! Thank you

Please tell me it started to work again??  Mine is doing the same thing.  It is not cooling!  System says 84 and it is down to 72.  The fan is running.  The AC doesn't seem to be cooling the house.  I am praying!!!
