Nest Learning Thermostat Wiring 3rd Gen

Hello if you have a electric heat pump with emergency heat and a 7 wire setup I would recommend wiring it as follows then run your tests. I ran all the test and my system runs as it should.

  • Yellow to Y1 for heat/Cool
  • Green to G for fan
  • Orange to O/B for the heat pump (orange is the most common color but you may have black which will still go into O/B. Just make sure to change it in the nest setup).
  • White to W2/Aux for Auxiliary Heat
  • Blue to C for 24V power. (You might have a different color).
  • Brown to * for emergency heat. (Your wire color may be different mine is brown).
  • Red to Rh for power.

During the setup just make sure the the O/B wires and selected correctly as well as the emergency heat wire. Hope this helps.

Hi, I have a 7 wire setup. Looking to swap to Nest, looking like I need the Learning 3rd Gen. The old tstats are installed as:

Brown to C

Red to R, jumped to Rc

White to W

Yellow to Y

Green to G

Blue to W2

Orange to Y2.

Can you confirm how I should be placing wires in the new system?
